DANCER CHECK-IN: “DEDICATION QUESTIONNAIRE”
In our development as dancers, we need to take the time to evaluate our dedication to consistent, intentional work to improve. These factors can contribute to your success and joy as a competitor/performer just as much, if not more than your talent.
I came across a Development Dedication Questionnaire and adapted it to dance to assist in giving an honest assessment into how dedicated you are to your development. This is a great questionnaire to better understand your level of dedication and highlight any areas that could be improved.
Let’s get out those journals!
Rate your dedication to your dance development by indicating your level of agreement with each statement using the scale below. Be honest with yourself! By doing so, you will be able to hone in on the areas to improve and excel your journey as a dancer!

· I dedicate time to studying and analyzing dance performances, either by watching my own/team performances or successful performances by others.
· I actively seek feedback from coaches/teachers, teammates, and mentors to identify areas for improvement and implement the information provided.
· I set specific and achievable goals for myself in terms of skill level, physical development, and performance.

· I prioritize proper daily nutrition and hydration to support my training and performances.
· I prioritize rest and recovery to ensure my body is adequately prepared for practice, training, and performances.
Now it’s time to tally up your Development Dedication score:
12-24 Low Dedication: Responses indicate a low level of dedication to dance development. The dancer may be missing opportunities for growth and improvement.
25-36 Moderate Dedication: Responses indicate a moderate level of dedication to dance development. The dancer demonstrates some commitment, but may benefit from more consistent effort in certain areas.
37-48 High Dedication: Responses indicate a high level of dedication to dance development. The dancer is committed to improving their technique, physical development, and overall performance.
49-60 Exceptional Dedication: Responses indicate an exceptional level of dedication to dance development. The dancer is highly motivated, consistently seeking opportunities for growth and actively pursues excellence in all aspects of dance.
The best (and most challenging) thing about dedication is that it isn’t fixed! The above questionnaire was just a gut check, to help you reevaluate, adjust, or draw attention to areas you may not have even considered! If you would like to improve your dedication, reach out to those who educate, mentor and, support you and consider making a training program and goal action plan. To have advocates in your corner, giving reminders and encouragement on the tough days, will give you that little extra boost to stay focused on your dedication to you!
